SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
October 30, 2026

Dear CSD Families:

In this week’s newsletter, we are pleased to feature an article from our Educational Services Department highlighting upcoming after-school programs.

Empowering the Whole Child through Expanded Learning Opportunities

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to nurturing the whole child—providing opportunities that spark curiosity, build resilience, and extend learning far beyond the traditional school day. That is why we are excited to announce the launch of three new, hands-on Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) offerings designed to inspire and energize our students across our campuses.

Beginning the week of November 18–19, students can channel their energy, focus, and determination through Never Stop Grinding Non-Contact Boxing. Through structured, non-contact athletic training, this program blends physical fitness and hand-eye coordination with positive mentorship and personal discipline. Concurrently, we are introducing Yogitherapi Mindfulness, an intentional space dedicated to student social-emotional wellness. Through guided movement, breathing techniques, and mindful awareness, participating students will cultivate valuable tools for emotional self-regulation and everyday focus.

The excitement continues in the new year as we launch Culinary Arts the week of January 6–7. In this interactive program, students will step into the kitchen to learn culinary safety, nutritional awareness, and practical life skills, all while collaborating side-by-side on delicious, hands-on recipes.

Each of these three high-impact programs is structured across an eight-week winter session followed by an eight-week spring session, ensuring students have sustained, meaningful time to build lasting skills, form strong friendships, and discover new passions. We look forward to seeing the joy, growth, and confidence these enriching experiences will bring to our school communities.

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

THE ONTARIO CENTER SCHOOL
By Principal Narrie Gaves

THE ONTARIO CENTER SCHOOL (TOCS) is thrilled to spotlight the exciting learning happening at TOCS. We are especially proud to welcome back a familiar face, Erik Lenaburg, who has transitioned from a beloved classroom teacher at our school to a district-wide role as our new Computer Science Integration (CSI) teacher. Mr. Lenaburg’s passion for technology and education is already making a tremendous impact on our campus as he pushes directly into our classrooms during this first trimester to collaborate with our teachers and deliver dynamic, interactive lessons.

In his new CSI role, Mr. Lenaburg bridges the gap between traditional academics and the digital world by bringing together grade-level standards and computer science. Our students are absolutely loving the hands-on learning he brings to their classrooms every day. Whether they are coding interactive animations with Scratch Junior, navigating engaging challenges with Indie robots, or tackling complex 3D printing projects that incorporate microbits (tiny programmable computers), our students are enthusiastically diving into the world of modern technology.

These dynamic activities bring the goals outlined in our "Portrait of a Graduate (POG) Full Descriptors" document right into the classroom. As our students program robots and build 3D projects, they are naturally developing their Information, Communication and Technology Literacy by using digital tools to create and manage new information. Furthermore, Mr. Lenaburg's hands-on lessons seamlessly foster Creativity and Innovation as students demonstrate inventiveness in their designs, while also building the Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills needed to tackle authentic challenges. We are so grateful to have Mr. Lenaburg guiding our students as they build these vital foundational skills for their future.
