CUCAMONGA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Educating 21st Century Learnings with the tools of today for the world of tomorrow.

Dear Cucamonga Elementary Cubs,

We are eager to begin this new school year! We have many educational events planned to ensure that this year is fun, engaging, and filled with opportunities to grow as a unified community. My name is Dr. Jenna Garretson-Tremayne, the C.E.S. Principal. This will be my fourth year as Principal at C.E.S. Previously, I served as the Kinder-5th grade Reading Intervention Teacher, Vice Principal, and School Coordinator. I am committed to working collaboratively with our families, teachers, staff, and our community to ensure that our students receive an exemplary and comprehensive education in a safe and supportive environment. I have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice. I have several certifications in restorative practices, Women in Leadership, and other educational strategies. I cannot wait for this year to begin and for the learning to commence!

Last year, we accomplished many new educational and safety practices. As an entire school, we participated in the “One School, One Book” program. We read Wonder and celebrated reading and community. We will continue with the “One School, One Book” this new year. Last year, we also implemented many cultural celebrations and heritage months. We will continue to celebrate and honor our diversity. Last year, we also partnered with the RCPD to become a “safe school.” The police department assisted us in improving our preparations for active shooters or other intruders. During this new year, we will continue this work to ensure that safety of students and staff is our top priority. We continue to have additional counselors on site for students in need of support. Our students are taught to show “GRR” core values of grit, responsibility, and respect. Our entire staff will work to support all students in building these traits as the year progresses. We will continue to teach and celebrate positive citizenship throughout the school year focusing on having clear expectations, strong communication with parents, and restorative practices.

This year, as long as the COVID restrictions stay lifted, we will be allowed to have visitors on site. All volunteers must sign in through the office (showing photo ID). We are eager to invite our community members back on campus! Please note that all volunteers must have prior arrangements with a staff member before coming on campus. We also plan to host STEM Night, History Day Fair, Track and Field Day, and many more community events. We continue to have increased intervention support for students, with a full-time intervention Language Arts teacher and a full-time Mathematics Intervention teacher.  We have also hired some new teachers to help support us in having smaller class sizes. With these changes in place, I have lots of high expectations and high hopes for an excellent and safe school year.

As you know parent partnership is one of the leading indicators of student success in schools. Please continue to check our school Instagram, our website, and ParentSquare regularly for updates. Please reach out to your student’s teacher if you have any academic, social, emotional, or health concerns that we should be aware of or that you have concerns with. We are a team here at C.E.S. and that team extends to you at home.

The following are some ways to be involved in your child's education:

  • Contact your teacher if you have any academic, behavioral, or emotional concerns.

  • Set high standards for the work that is performed

  • Maintain a clear routine as much as possible. Students ages 4-10 need a minimum of 10 hours of sleep per night. Please help your child set a clear bedtime. If you need help with ideas for maintaining better sleep routines for your student, please contact me. Sleep is a significant predictor of strong academic success as well as a healthy social and emotional mindset.

  • Communicate your confidence and pride in your child frequently

  • Work on encouraging students to problem-solve when something doesn’t turn out the way they intended instead of fixing or offering solutions right away.

If you have any further questions, concerns or ideas to share, please feel free to contact me. If your question is concerning class events or your student’s achievement we ask that you please speak to your student’s teacher first. I am looking forward to a great year of learning, exploration, and fun!

Sincerely,

 Dr. Jenna Garretson-Tremayne
