SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
2/27/2026

Dear CSD Families,

As we look forward to Read Across America next month, I want to highlight a simple but powerful truth: our students’ greatest breakthroughs often start with a single book.

In our district, we are committed to fostering proactive change. We aren't just teaching kids to decode words; we are empowering them to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners. When we prioritize reading, we give our students the tools to navigate a changing world with confidence.

We are also proud to share that each school site has been allocated $20,000 to invest in ebooks and library books through our LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan). Sites have the flexibility to distribute these funds based on their individual needs, ensuring that every library collection reflects the interests, cultures, and academic goals of its students. This investment strengthens classroom instruction and expands access to high-quality, engaging reading materials for all learners.

How We’re Growing Together:

  • Student-Led Discovery: This month, our libraries are featuring diverse stories that reflect our students' unique voices and interests.
  • The "Power of 20": Research shows that reading just 20 minutes a day significantly boosts student confidence and academic stamina.
  • Community Connection: Reading together at home reinforces the work our dedicated teachers do every day, creating a seamless circle of support for your child.

Did you know?

Research consistently shows that students who read proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely to graduate on time. Your 20 minutes at home is a direct investment in their future diploma.

Reading is the foundation of everything we aim to achieve. Whether it’s a graphic novel, a science journal, or a bedtime story, thank you for supporting your child’s journey.

Let’s keep writing our success story together!

Take care,

Michael Chaix, Ed.D

Innovation, History, and Community

As we move into the last third of the school year, our hallways are buzzing with the energy of students who are not just learning but truly doing. Here are a few highlights of what our students and staff have been up to:

💻 Computer Science in Action

We are thrilled to have our District Computer Science Teacher, Mrs. Munoz for the duration of the third trimester! This partnership is bringing computer science to life across all grade levels. Rather than learning tech in isolation, our students are engaging in integrated activities that blend computer science with core subjects like math, science, and literacy.

📜 Celebrating Heritage and Research

As we wrap up Black History Month, our classrooms have been filled with meaningful discussions and activities honoring the legacies and contributions of Black Americans. This spirit of inquiry extended into our History Day Fair, where students were officially recognized for their rigorous research and creative displays.

📊 National Academic Benchmarks

Recently, a randomly selected group of our 4th graders participated in the NAEP assessment (National Assessment of Educational Progress). These students represented our school with focus and pride, helping provide important data on educational trends across the country.

🤠 Community Connections: The Friendship Hoedown

A massive thank you to our amazing volunteers and fabulous staff for organizing the Friendship Hoedown! It was a joy to see families come together for an evening of dancing and laughter. Events like these remind us that the heart of our school is the strong bond between our staff, students, and parents.
